Friday Odd Jobs 12: DDoS Defenders #whentwitterwasdown

This week, Ninja Panda and Samurai Panda pick up a side job tracking down the hackers who took down Twitter and Facebook.

For those of you non-social-networkers, both sites experienced a DoS/DDoS attack earlier this week, rendering most of their services unavailable.  It prompted waves of annoyed users, as well as the Twitter topic #whentwitterwasdown .

I thought this recent news was a fun opportunity to combine my present project (Unemployed Pandas) with my past experience as a graphic designer with a computer security company. I spent quite a bit of time studying up on all the various types of network activity and forms of cyberattacks and malware.  I cannot thank enough the patient engineers and product managers who set aside their valuable time to explain these complex concepts to me. Although it is a rather technical field, I really enjoyed that job, and welcomed the challenge to visually communicate such concepts.  (Heck, I think I’m ready to take the Network Plus certification test :)

All righty, hope y’all enjoy the weekend and see ya next week!
