Benefits 14: Ping Pong Challenge

Ninja Panda and Samurai Panda join forces to take on some new rivals: L33TASS.

L33tAss is a relatively new webcomic started by my old friend, Long Vo. (If you’re a fan of Capcom’s Street Fighter II Remix, you can thank Long for that, as he was the lead artist/art director for that game. ) But back to comics. L33tAss is an ongoing commentary about fandom, pop culture, life…and maybe even some ping pong :)

Most importantly, it’s just good to see Long stretching his creative energy towards a personal project. Although his professional resume is quite impressive, it’s great to see him able to express his own point of view and share that independently of any licensed characters.

To me, Long’s comic is remniscent of simpler times for my generation of manga-influenced artists. Long and I belong to the artists that came after Antarctic Press, Adam Warren, etc. but before the TokyoPop movement.  Many of us met at Anime Expo 1999 as part of the Fan Artist Headquarters (FAHQ) gathering, and essentially enjoyed our own community heyday for the next several years.  Late night ping pong-BS sessions were common for our group, and I think this is probably an influence on Long’s comic setting of choice :)

Once again, I’d like to congratulate Long on his launch of L33tAss. I hope you Unemployed Pandas readers check it out, and if it moves you please continue to support him :)
