For P.M.B.Q. Studios, April marks the beginning of the anime/comic “convention season.” This weekend, we’ll be at Fanime Con in San Jose, which marks the beginning of the major summer conventions—Fanime Con, Anime Expo, and San Diego Comic-Con.
We’ve had several years of experience at these shows, and as a result are very comfortable in the pre-show setup environment—walking around the forklifts and pallettes, and chatting it up with the union laborers. Anyone who has worked in event marketing is also probably very familiar with how a convention hall looks before a show starts. It’s quite an amazing transformation within the span of a few hours.
As we were setting up yesterday, I was inspired to put Ninja Panda (saran-wrapping a pallette) and Samurai Panda (chillin’ in forklift) in the role of convention center laborers. It’s a good application for their skills, as it’s fairly physically labor-intensive. Gotta remember to stay in shape when you’re living the unemployed life.
